The situation is this. Yesterday evening I met with a friend and had a chat. It’s somehow annoying the way conversations in the past ten years always goes in one direction and not just with her, indeed with almost anyone, especially these days. We feel restless and frustrated because all we have done in these years, no matter how hard we have tried, looks as if it’s turned out into nothing, we had to admit things seem to be getting worse. All is due to the economical crisis, that’s what we all say, and part of the problem is that indeed. I believe there’s even a mentality crisis; the few people being able to make things move have always made sure we’re kept busy moving, wearing us out with constant pushing , shoving and running ,making sure no one ever stops willing or not. Now my friend and I have the distinct feeling, after years of work, that all we have done has led us to a constant step forward and one back. This morning it struck me we‘re wrong. In all this time we have been moving like the rest, though never a step forward or back…Just sideway. Now the constant moving, done in the past, has generated the feeling we were all struggling to achieve something, get somewhere and there were times when things apparently did happen making us hope for the best. Yet there is more to this situation, there is something we don’t see. We are pacing against a wall. A glass wall showing us what can be done, the road we want to follow, the path we want to set but…we can’t make a step forward only sideways and as time has gone by all this moving around has made us lose concentration missing the core of the problem we must stop and start thinking about a way to get over the glass wall. It may seem more appropriate to think of removing the obstacle, unfortunately the few who realize this know why it can’t be done: there are not enough of us. It’s no excuse for surrender…I’m not putting up with this situation!
